Yipee!

Thanks to all of you for coming out and showing support for our wedding. It was a blast. I don’t think I had ever had more fun… or that my feet had ever hurt after so much dancing. We made it back safely to NYC after the honeymoon. Charleston was amazing, cool beyond our wildest dreams, and we had a wonderful trip.

I don’t know what else there is to say…

Just a small update to say how excited we are! We’re officially at less than a month… which I thought meant that most of our projects would be wrapped up by now. We are close, but those pesky things like programs and escort cards and the dj list are still hovering. The big stuff is out of the way though, so hopefully it will be easy sailing from here on in. We’re enjoying our last month of (semi) freedom and hoping everyone is having a lovely spring.

We can’t wait to see many of you in Pittsburgh!

Bridal Shower

At the beginning of March a group of second mothers threw a beautiful bridal shower for me. Mrs. Gorman, Mrs. Danforth, and Mrs. Schein went above and beyond for the event. Fresh tulips, delicious food, lots of laughs, and an afternoon full of drinks and friends. Here are some pictures…

My biggest stress so far is finally over. Thanks to Bevin, Mia, Becca, and Lauren, for helping me assemble these beasts! We had a little wine and cheese, some Britney, some hole punches, awful string, and finally, FINALLY we had finished invitations. I do have pictures as well, so some will be uploaded here after they start being delivered by the good’ole USPS, or Canada Post.

The invitations have been a Big Deal to me. I could not find any that I liked, and when I found 3 that I did like, it turns out they were all, oh, between 2 & 4 thousand dollars. That was not going to fly, no matter how many things I tried to give up or what else I tried to skimp on.

So I decided to make them myself. I have a very small knowledge of photoshop, that I mostly learned just by fooling around, or by googling things when I came across something neat and wanted to recreate it. Obviously, once I could recreate it, I’d see the magic behind the curtain and never want to do it again, nor would those pictures interest me anymore.

Anyway, so photoshop + some paper + a home printer = a very happy nic with some invitations that she’s happy with. In a perfect world they probably would’ve looked exactly the same, but letterpressed, but alas, this is not a perfect world.

I have some very awesome girlfriends who have volunteered to help put the whole package together, we’re having a mini-party on Tuesday to get these done. Then hopefully they’ll be in the mail by the end of the week! Hooray!

Things are very very slowly coming together. It feels very slow anyway. I know we have a lot to do still, but this trip back to Pgh was very productive indeed. We even started our registry! Which was actually less fun than it sounds. But no one gets to know about it yet because I’m sure there will be some big changes once we hit up some other stores. I’ve never considered myself a perfectionist, but a rough draft on the registry? Yikes.

The trip was great, even (especially) when not wedding planning. We went up to my Grandparent’s farm and helped them pick up sticks, and then burn said sticks. We ate burgers (some of us had the veggie variety…) and sat out by the fire until it was dark dark dark out. It was close to 70 degrees that day in the last week of Dec, and it was so warm and nice and sitting and listening to their stories at that old picnic table by the fire is one of my absolute favorite memories from growing up. Hopefully our kids will get to experience it one day too.

We also spent time with my family, drinking with my sister, watching football with my dad. We saw Marley & Me and Australia. Of course there were gifts and cookies and trees and time spent with family friends.

All in all, it was quite successful. So now on to a very memorable 2009!

Thanksgiving Update

I know, I know, I’m a little backed up, but I’m finally getting around to talking about Thanksgiving.

It was a whirlwind weekend, to say the least. We met with a florist that we love, a DJ that was “eh”, and an expensive Rabbi. I also saw a florist that I did not like. I tried on The Dress post-alterations. His family came down from TO to meet my family. The groom finally saw the wedding location. We had brunch. We watched the Steelers. And of course there was Thanksgiving itself!

The florist was seriously amazing. I kind of can’t get over it. I feel like this is how I should feel after meeting with every vendor. I felt like he took a copious amount of notes and actually listened to what I had to say. He had his opinions as well, but told me after I told him what I wanted and they were all in sync with what we wanted. I don’t want floral centerpieces and he’s even going to be awesome to work with me to get what I do want, even though they’re not flowers. Amazing. I can’t stop thinking about how excited I am to see what they come up with. I’m happy and confident and excited. And hopefully that will continue after we get the quote. Yikes.

The DJ was exactly the opposite of that. I tried to make it very clear that he’s there to play the music. But he would.not.stop.talking. I mean, at one point I interrupted him to try to get him to stop talking about playing a song from Fiddler on the Roof during the Money Dance (because A. There will be no musical music at my wedding and B. there will also be no money dance) and he kind of snapped at me with “let me finish.” Uh, dude, you are not listening to me at all. The more I think about it the less happy I am. Ugh.

So now I have a secret idea for a DJ. I don’t know if it will come through. But I’m frustrated so I’m going in a new direction at the moment. We’ll see if it pans out.

The groom, the dress, and this florist, have all had extremely calming influences on me. Every time I think of them I’m filled with sunshine and lollipops, and I feel like I should strive to feel that way about every other vendor and aspect of the wedding. That’s my new goal, in addition to the kick ass party.

Flowers

Last night Allon & I had a date night. It’s one thing to get to spend every night together, but it’s still nice to get dressed up and put on make up and do my hair and go out to eat in a place that doesn’t have a television. We ate at Moustard, our favorite restaurant in Park Slope and then we hung out at the new bar that opened near us, Sycamore, which is a bar and flower shop combined. So great. I love that there are still places in New York where 4 beers + tip is still $20.

Anyway, since it’s also a flower shop there are of course many flowers there during the day. Last night most of them were put away, but there was a single one in a vase. It was hot fuschia & had a black center. Obviously, I fell in love. Allon thinks it’s some kind of poppy (which would make sense, since my ideal flower right now, the anemone, is part of the poppy familyl), but I just thought it was the perfect flower for the bridesmaid bouquets. Thanksgiving weekend we’re meeting with 2 florists, so hopefully they’ll be able to shed some light on the flower mystery.
